What we really want you to know about at home hair color.

I will never make a client wrong for coloring their hair at home.

I really get the investment in time and money it takes to be in my chair. And I’m grateful to anyone that sits in my chair!

The other day, I had a haircut client that had been coloring her hair with the same box for quiet some time, her hair looked great in the photos she showed me and she shared that the very last time she colored her hair… it went sideways!

Her roots didn’t seem “to take” and her tone at the ends was vastly different then her color at the root … and worse, her ends were tangled and very dry, a symptom she has not had in the past.

What causes this is something we learn about in school. I shared with her why it happened and how to prevent it.

It’s tedious to maintain any permanent or demi permanent color retouches, the most common things I see with at home hair color are:

1.Banding and inconsistent color deposit

2.Missed spots

3.hallow or poor gray coverage.

4.Over lap on highlights (then they disappear)

5.Overly brassy or way too ashy

6.Damaged hair, mainly the ends

It really takes a professional to know the type of chemical that makes the most sense for the area of hair being treated.

We have access to the manufactures color wheel to manage our formulas for best gray coverage and depth of color. We have way better point of view for the application process, we won’t overlap or miss spots. These are some of the benefits that come when you sit in a professional’s chair.

When color goes badly it’s can cost 10-20 times that little box from the grocery to correct it

If you really need to do at home color here’s the deal:

Use one semi perm color, especially if you’re pulling it all the way through your length.

If your covering grey, only touch up the growth.

If this gave you anxiety about your next at home color. Please call or message me for some salon options.

My team and I are really committed to tailoring an affordable plan for you to have beautiful hair.

**Client solution** She is going to stop pulling color through and we recommended our in-house product range Chic Geek Indulge masque for deep conditioning 2x weekly to help manage her dry ends. If she gets frustrated I’m here for her and ready to apply and formulate amazing color. Until she’s ready, I’ll make sure her at home hair care regimen is spot on to manage her hair’s specific needs
